City living comes with many perks—but kitchen storage space isn’t usually one of them. In this Chicago home, we were able to repurpose unused space in the dining room into a highly functional multi-purpose addition to the kitchen.
Our clients needed extra pantry storage—which we hid away neatly on shelves behind doors. They also needed storage for cookbooks, which are now housed in the upper cabinets. And they needed a space for meal planning, paying bills, or catching up on work, for which we added a built-in desk. An open shelf above the desk offers an area to display decorative items. The whole system is complete with shaker cabinet fronts in white finish, matching the adjacent kitchen.
